I was born in Englewood, New Jersey, into a world of blueprints and sawdust. My father ran a family construction business, and from the moment I could hold a broom, I was on the job site.

I wasn’t given a desk. I was given work. When I asked my father for help with estimating costs, he told me no. He said, “If I tell you, you won’t learn.” That tough love stung at the time, but it forced me to understand every nut, bolt, and dollar that goes into a project.

That grit took me from sweeping floors to negotiating with VPs of billion-dollar retail brands. But the path wasn’t a straight line. It was a journey of massive growth, painful failure, and hard-earned wisdom.

It started with a broom, not a desk

I grew up in New Jersey in a family construction business. My father didn’t believe in handouts, he wanted me to learn by making mistakes.


1989

Breaking the local barrier

We went from public school bids to building flagships for The Gap and Home Depot. I overcame my shyness to network at trade shows and shake hands with VPs.


2000s

The hardest lesson I ever learned

Growth without systems is dangerous. I expanded into multiple states, but my oversight didn’t keep up. I had to shut the company down.
